You remember Nathan, my biggest fan. He has asked how we came to live in upstate NY. Since yesterday was the 7th anniversary of us moving to NY, I thought it was an ok time to write.
Eight years ago we were living in Boston in a tiny (the apartment would fit in my master bathroom) apartment that cost 950./ month. Ouch- considering a dental resident made about 2 bucks an hour! It was such an icky apartment and we were expecting baby#2. We frequently would visit Jim's parents in upstate NY. (I'll post my first trip to upstate NY later.) I loved it. I loved that it was clean and open, the people were friendly and kind, there wasn't any traffic or congestion, the prices were so much more family friendly and I felt this HUGE pull towards moving there.
There was a dentist looking for an associate and he had contacted Jim a couple of times but Jim never expressed any interest in moving back to NY. He interviewed with a few practices in New England but nothing seemed to pull me.
Well, I told Jim that I think we needed to move to upstate NY and that we should call the dentist back and set up a meeting. I felt a pull that we needed to raise our family there.
He told me I shouldn't do drugs while pregnant.
So, he interviewed, we moved, we loved it, we missed family and friends, we missed Fenway Park, we missed The Border Cafe. We love upstate NY and even though I still miss Boston for soooo many reasons, I feel we are where we are supposed to be. For someone who loathes winter, it seems like an odd place to call home. Home is where the heart is and we have been so blessed by following the call to move here. Our family is healthy and strong, we have great friends, Jim's practice has flourished over the past 7 years. His first day on the job, he had 7 patients, now he has about 7,000. Amazing blessings!
Yesterday, Jim announced to his staff that he was amicably splitting from his dental partner, due to philosophical differences, and will only work in the Clifton Park location starting in August. The past seven years have been busy, with so many changes and developments and excitement, here's another one and we're just going to roll with it......
